Former Blue Angels pilot teaches YISD students about careers in aviation, STEAM

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Wednesday, a former U.S. Navy Blue Angels pilot said El Paso should "expect to be inspired" at this year's Amigo Airsho. He channeled his excitement into a visit to an El Paso elementary school to spread the word about his aviation career.

The Amigo Airsho is just more than a month away on Oct. 24-25. It'll take place on Biggs Army Airfield on Fort Bliss.

LCDR (Ret.) Tyler "Feed" Davies said the Blue Angels haven't been in El Paso for more than a decade, but will make its mark this year.

"Having not been here in 15 years -- that is a testament to the town of El Paso," Davies said. "I know the first time I saw the Blues as a young kid, I was inspired."

The former Blue Angels pilot visited Tierra Del Sol Elementary School to teach fifth grade students about aviation and STEAM careers.

"I'm at this beautiful school today to try and motivate these kids to do something amazing," he said. "Maybe not join the military, and maybe not fly airplanes, but shoot for something that they didn't think was possible."

Davies also spoke an Amigo Airsho brunch event Wednesday ahead of next month's show.

The U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team will join the Blue Angels in headlining the two-day event.

Air Boss Kellie Hudson said the flight teams will bring a loud, exhilarating environment.

Beyond the aerobatics, Hudson said visitors can learn about the history of military aircraft. Displays of old and new aircraft will offer an up-close and personal experience.

Hudson hopes the Amigo Airsho will introduce aircraft work to others, including airshow production and air traffic control.
