La Union takes major hit from heavy rain

DOÑA ANA COUNTY, New Mexico (KVIA) — Heavy rain left parts of La Union without usable roads Thursday, with water still rushing through streets while crews work urgently to redirect runoff into a nearby drainage basin.

Local residents told ABC-7 that flooding in this area is a recurring problem. One neighbor recalled that a storm just last year caused even worse destruction, washing out the entire street compared to the partial collapse seen today.

Construction crews on scene told ABC-7 they are rushing to pump out and divert as much water as possible ahead of another round of heavy rainfall expected tonight.
