ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Calm Sunday Weather before flash flood watch issued Monday afternoon through Wednesday

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Sunday tracking to remain relatively quiet across the Borderland, but a major change in the weather pattern arrives Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the region from Monday afternoon through Wednesday as a surge of tropical moisture moves into the Borderland.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and continue through Wednesday. Some storms could produce very heavy rainfall in a short amount of time, increasing the risk for flash flooding.

The flooding threat could be especially serious because the ground is already saturated in many areas. Tuesday is expected to be the greatest concern, with the potential for widespread heavy rain and additional rainfall adding to the flooding risk.

The Sacramento Mountains and other areas prone to flooding will need to be watched closely.

Rain chances begin to decrease Wednesday, with drier weather returning by Wednesday evening. Temperatures will also turn cooler, with highs generally in the upper 70s through the remainder of the week.
