Police rescue man from Rio Grande in Juarez

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (KVIA) -- Thursday, Juarez State Police officers rescued a man from the Rio Grande.

The Juarez Municipal Government said the current swept 61-year-old Jose Luis in the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood. It happened near the intersection of Juan Pablo II Boulevard and Moctezuma Street.

According to reports, a 911 call said a person nearly drowned in the Rio Grande. Upon arrival, police found a man being carried by the current.

The man's wife arrived and told officers Luis suffered from "persecutory delusions."

The Juarez government said the couple was at the Todos Somos Mexicanos Health Center waiting for a referral to see a psychiatrist. Luis reportedly left the facility and threw himself into the river water.
