Chelsea waits 182 days for home

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Chelsea, a 2-year-old Australian cattle dog, has spent 182 days waiting for a new home at the Humane Society of El Paso.

A Humane Society representative introduced Chelsea during ABC-7’s noon newscast, describing her as smart, sweet and friendly. Chelsea can walk well on a leash and knows several commands, including sit and shake.

The representative said Chelsea can initially be shy around new people but begins to open up once she becomes comfortable.

Chelsea first arrived at the Humane Society as a puppy and was adopted before eventually being returned. Despite her extended stay at the shelter, the representative said Chelsea continues to do well and has become a favorite among staff.

The Humane Society said more prospective adopters have recently been looking for puppies, which may be one reason older dogs such as Chelsea are sometimes overlooked.

Chelsea’s adoption fee is currently waived. An adopter would only need to pay $12.50 for her rabies license. Her regular adoption cost based on her age would be $139.50.

Those interested in adopting Chelsea can contact the Humane Society of El Paso for more information.
