ABC-7 StormTrack Weather: Cooler temperatures Sunday and Monday as rain chances return

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Temperatures tracking to remain cool Sunday and Monday, then climb back above normal starting Tuesday. The warming trend will continue even as rain chances increase in the forecast.

Rain chances are returning to the Borderland Sunday, with a better chance for showers and thunderstorms developing Monday.

Sunday afternoon could bring isolated showers, mainly west of the Rio Grande Valley. Moisture moving north from Mexico will help fuel additional rain chances as a weather system moves across Arizona and New Mexico.

Monday brings a better chance for rain across the region. Some thunderstorms are also possible as the air becomes more unstable. Rain chances will decrease Tuesday and Wednesday, but a few showers or storms cannot be ruled out.

The bigger weather concern arrives Thursday and Friday. Another Pacific storm system is expected to bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could produce heavy rain and lead to flooding. The exact timing and location of the heaviest rain are still uncertain.
