ABC-7 Storm Track Weather First Alert Continues – More active and severe weather the next several days.

A very active stretch of weather is shaping up across the Borderland, with increasing storm chances and a growing threat for heavy rain, flooding and severe thunderstorms.

A large storm system will continue spinning off the California coast while an upper-level ridge remains to our southeast. This setup will help funnel moisture into the region, especially across Arizona and the western portions of the Borderland.

Wednesday will be the beginning of the active weather pattern. Storm chances will increase, particularly along and west of the Continental Divide. A Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place, with some storms capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts.

The weather pattern becomes even more active Thursday. A significant surge in moisture will accompany the system that will give us plenty of moisture available for heavy rainfall.

That moisture will increase the potential for flooding, strong thunderstorms, large hail and damaging winds Thursday and into Friday. Areas that receive repeated rounds of thunderstorms could see localized flooding, so stay weather aware as we head into the latter part of the week.

Another upper-level system arrives for early this weekend, providing additional energy for Saturday's storms. Rain and thunderstorm chances will continue, with another possibility for severe thunderstorms and flooding.

By the end of the weekend, the upper-level system will finally get absorbed into the main flow, allowing drier and gradually clearing conditions to spread from west to east.

Looking ahead to early next week, another strong cold front could move through the region Monday into Tuesday. This would bring a return of windy conditions and another noticeable change in the weather.
