UTEP’s Orange and Blue Day invites future Miners to experience student life
Calling all future miners, this weekend, UTEP is hosting their annual event, Orange and Blue day, welcoming prospective students to consider making it their new home.
High school juniors and seniors can come and explore UTEP majors, academic programs, and student life, but that's not all.
They'll also be able to explore admissions and financial aid options along with their families.
This isn't just open to high schoolers — EPCC transfer students, returning students or even parents considering a career change are invited.
With many programs to explore, UTEP is launching their mining engineering program for Fall 2027.
UTEP says it puts it on the map.
"We're getting back to our Miner roots and trying to enroll students into mining engineering, and also something that will have an impact in the state of Texas in the country with more mining engineers being able to graduate," says Alba Esparza, UTEP Assistant Vice President of Admissions and Recruitment.
UTEP says they've changed a lot over the years and this event is a great way for new and returning students to learn what opportunities they offer.
Something they say that remains the same is their accessibility to higher education.
"We go ahead and accept over 90% of the students that apply to our institution," says Esparza. "That's because we feel that opportunity needs to be granted to anyone that wants to go ahead and come and pursue an education."
UTEP says they're ranked as a Research 1 institution, which means that they're bringing in over $50 million in research.
Recently, UTEP says they've gotten close to about $170 million.
They say it matches a lot of what their state competitors are doing, as well as their quality of education.
"So the quality of education is the same as a lot of those institutions, I think a lot of times the difference is the accessibility piece," Esparza shares. "I think we offer first year students a whole lot of resources for them to be successful, not just in their first year, but to continue to be successful and explore what it's like to be a college student."
Check-in will be at the Geology Lawn on Saturday, Oct. 24.
Orange and Blue Day starts from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
