ABC-7 FIRST ALERT: Strong Winds and Storms Possible Across El Paso and Las Cruces Sunday

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- ABC-7 FIRST ALERT as stronger winds and another round of showers and thunderstorms move into the Borderland Sunday.

El Paso and Las Cruces could experience breezy to very breezy conditions Sunday afternoon. Winds may become even stronger around thunderstorms, which could also produce heavy rain and sudden wind gusts.

Reminder for our viewers to secure loose outdoor items, use caution while driving and remain alert for changing weather conditions. If you have outdoor plans, be prepared for gusty winds and passing storms.

Heavy rain could also lead to localized flooding, especially around low-water crossings and streets with poor drainage. The greatest flooding concern is farther west across Southwest New Mexico, including portions of the Gila region and northern Hidalgo County.

Temperatures will remain warm Sunday, with highs in the lower 80 in El Paso and in the upper 70s for Las Cruces.

A few showers could continue into Monday morning, but conditions are expected to improve by Monday afternoon. Drier weather returns Tuesday and is expected to continue through Thursday.
