Bah humbug! Downtown El Paso’s mistletoe stolen

Trying to steal a kiss under the mistletoe isn’t unusual.

But stealing the actual mistletoe? That’s not something you hear everyday.

The Downtown Management District’s mistletoe has been stolen after being up for less than a week.

It was hanging from a light pole at the intersection of W. San Antonio and El Paso Streets since Monday, Nov. 17.

“Our DWNTWN El Paso Mistletoe has been stolen! We suspect The Grinch!! An unsubstantial reward will be given to anyone with information that leads to the apprehension and arrest of The Grinch!” the Downtown Management District posted on its DWNTWN E Paso Facebook page.

Officials say they believe it was stolen sometime between last night and this morning.

The Downtown Management District plans on replacing the mistletoe.

“The mistletoe hung Monday evening was a prop to highlight the DMD’s holiday decoration efforts along El Paso Street and an attempt to initiate a new El Paso tradition. Images of mistletoe adorn numerous banners along the corridor already but we are amazed at the response from El Pasoans in support of our efforts to create a special holiday moment,” the Downtown Management District said in a statement Friday afternoon. “As a result we’ll work to replace the actual mistletoe along the El Paso Street corridor and will continue to encourage El Pasoans to find it. Don’t let a Grinch stop you from celebrating the holiday season with a kiss. Share your photos with us on social media. #EPMistletoeKiss”
