ABC-7 I-Team combs through additional info about UMC bonuses

For weeks now, ABC-7 viewers have been giving us feedback on the $120,000 bonus given to University Medical Center CEO Jim Valenti based on his performance evaluation.

Valenti took that money despite laying off more than 50 employees this year. Then, ABC-7 learned he’ll get about $3 million on top of regular pay and bonuses if he fulfills his contract through spring of 2016.

After a lot of reading, ABC-7 learned Valenti is not alone. Two executive staffers under Valenti also got performance incentives this year. Based on both of their reviews acquired through a Public Information Act request, it appears Valenti is happy with his team. In order to earn an incentive, hospital employees must set and meet goals yearly.

Chief Financial Officer Michael Nu ez got $45,000 on top of his base salary of $265,000 and Chief Operating Officer Maria Zampini got a $40,000 incentive, on top of her base of $235,000, according to the El Paso Times.

ABC-7 also found out 26 admin staffers will get performance incentives totaling nearly $300,000. There’s also 127 associates who will see bonses totaling nearly $154,000, and 17 staffers in the Professional Clinical Program for Registered Nurses and Respitory Therapists will see more than $35,000.

A complete list of employees who have or will receive bonuses for the year is expected to be released by the end of December. ABC-7 has been told associates didn’t receive merit or cost of living increases in 2014.
