paso school district is grappling with a possible 25 million dollar deficit. word tonight of possible salary freezes within the district. ABC-7’sASHLIE rodriguez is live with the new informaiton. the district is reviewing finances for the next fiscal year. right now — both the texas senate and house are working on bills to fund education — so the district doesn’t know specifically what its budget will be — but today the finance department presented its estimates. due to decling enrollment, a drop in state funding and higher payroll costs … the district estimates at best it will face an $11 million dollar deficit … at worst, a $25 million-dollar deficit. these numbers include the current $9.8 million deficit. at this time the district is recommending a salary freeze. the district says regardless, it will have a balanced budget by cutting costs. now both chambers have bills in play that earmark additional revenue — but the state’s school district don’t know what they are. session ends june 1st. ok ashlie, thank you for the latest.
