El Paso Police release names of couple found dead in apparent murder-suicide Wednesday

El Paso Police say a man shot and killed his wife and then killed himself Wednesday afternoon in East El Paso.

They have been identified as 58-year-old Jose Humberto Olivas and 47-year-old Cecilia Olivas.

Police received a call at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday to do a welfare check on the house in the 14000 block of Sandy Rock when friends of one of the residents became concerned.

Officers entered the home and found Cecilia Olivas dead on the living room couch.

Police say officers saw what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to her head.

As officers continued to check the residence they found Jose Humberto Olivas dead on a bedroom floor with a handgun beside him.

Based on the investigation, detectives believe that Cecilia Olivas was shot by Jose Humberto

Olivas while she was sleeping on the couch.

Police say they believe that Jose Humberto Olivas went into the bedroom and shot himself in the head.

The case remains an ongoing investigation and no other information has been deemed releasable at this time.
