interested in adding chihuahuas manager pat murphy to their coaching staff… murphy has not been with the team the last two days… citing personal reasons… he coached brewers current manager craig counsil in college… more on this as it developes… meanwhile the chihuahuas were riding a team record worst six game losing streak entering the night… and it got ugly early … max stassi… 2 run blast… fresno would take a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth… so the chihuahuas looking at another loss, right… not so fast… brett wallace… base knock into left… that’ll score 2 it’s now 9-5 … next batter… cody decker… move pitch get out the way… a 3 run blast… that caps a sixth run bottom of the fourth … the dogs would score 7 more in the sixth… the losing streak is over! chihuahuas win 15-9… if you talk to basketball people… most of them will tell you it’s now a guards game… but you can’t win without a big man … today… utep got one of the biggest.. hobbs center kelvin jones commits to utep … he’s 6 foot 11… he won a state title with hobbs last year in class 6a… he’s a 3 star recruit… he averaged a little less than 15 points per game and close to 10 rebounds… also threw in over 3 blocks per game for good measure … we have four new community champions presented by southwest university… all four of them are state champs… the first man on the list on nathan brown… he’s a beast… kid was owning it out in college station last week… he earns the state title in tennis singles a year after finishing as the runner up.. he was a man on a mission this year… mission accomplished… “All Spring, all fall, I’ve known what my target is. i came up for it last year and that was critical for me to play in the finals last year because i knew what to expect, what the stage felt like, and i knew what it took to win.” paulo benavides is our next community to champ… he’s now a two time state champ as well…. the franklin high school stud won his second straight gold medal and set the state record in the pole vault at 17 feet and 6.5 inches… now he has his eyes set on the national high school record of 18 feet and 2 inches… “i have a few meets left this summer, about six meets, so hopefully within these next six, it should go down. i think I’m really confident that i have a good chance at it so we’ll see what happens these next few meets.” of course we had to get michael johnson on the show… the young man from san elizario has more in common with the flash than an average person… dude grabbed not one.. but two gold medals at state… 800m and 1600m run champion.. i’m not sure how we did it… but we managed to catch up with him… for an interview after the race, of course… “i came out here with the mindset of going for that gold and bringing back two more state championships to our school. The class of 2015 has done such an amazing job.” congrats to mr. johnson, paulo benavides and nathan brown… i have a feeling we haven’t heard the last from any of them… our final community champion is chantal berry… berry is the first andress wrestler to win a state title … but there’s more to it than that… when berry was 13 she lost her mother and her grandmother in the same year… her uncle took her in and now the two can look back proudly at what she’s accomplished… berry was honored at city council today… she won her state title match in just 38 seconds… she’s got a scholarship to oklahoma city university which is one of the best wrestling programs in the nation… she talks about what went in to all her success … “i cut weight like crazy. i worked hard. Overtime practices. There were times where i had to quit but i kept going and that’s all it really was. Hard work.” chantal wants to major in criminal justice in college… she hopes to one day be a judge … hanks is on a serious roll right now in softball… they’re in the
