Mother of abandoned baby found in El Paso located, claims baby was smuggled into U.S.

The 7-month-old baby found in West El Paso May 15 was smuggled into the U.S., according to the baby’s mother.

El Paso Customs and Border Protection officers detained Mayra Selene Lazos at the Bridge of the Americas at about 3:30 p.m. May 15 after she allegedly presented a Colorado driver’s license with a different identity.

CBP officers checked her fingerpints and found she was wanted on an active warrant out of Colorado for failure to appear under her real name.

She was taken into custody and told CBP officers about her baby. CBP contacted El Paso Police regarding the case of the abandoned baby found at about 6:30 p.m. May 15 in West El Paso and were able to confirm the baby was the woman’s daughter.

Lazo’s was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
