Police Arrest Wrong-Way Driver, Allegedly Drunk

Police say a driver pulled over for driving south on a one-way northbound street was drunk.

Diana Guadalupe Lopez-Rivera, 22, is charged with DWI. She was booked into the county jail on a $600 bond.

Officers arrested Lopez-Rivera on the 1000 block of Raynor shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday.

The city of El Paso is encouraging people who will go out this Memorial Day weekend to avoid the financial, and sometimes deadly, consequences of driving drunk.

Thursday, law enforcement officials, concert organizers, and representatives with a beer distributing company joined El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser to promote the “Don’t Gamble With Your Life” program.

It offers free rides to people who had too much to drink and can’t drive home safely.
