Texas education commissioner names replacement for EPISD board of managers

Texas Commissioner of Education Michael Williams on Friday announced the appointment of Bob Geske to the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) board of managers.

Geske will replace Dr. Blanca Enriquez on the appointed board of managers. Enriquez resigned from the board earlier this month following her appointment to lead the Office of Head Start in Washington D.C.

Geske was elected to the EPISD board of trustees in 2013. The duties of the elected board of trustees are currently suspended with the appointed board of managers overseeing the district. Geske is a former high school and middle school teacher and administrator,

“I want to thank Dr. Enriquez for her service to the community in helping to restore confidence in the El Paso Independent School District,” said Commissioner Williams. “My appointment of Bob Geske to the board of managers should help to strengthen the transition back to an elected board.”

The current EPISD board of managers will remain in place and continue to serve as stewards of the district until three elected positions in the May 2015 election are filled and the entire board of trustees is sworn in.

On Dec. 6, 2012, Commissioner Williams announced the appointment of a five-member board of managers to oversee the management of the EPISD. The appointed board assumed its role – replacing the board of trustees – on May 7, 2013.
