Rapper Wiz Khalifa pleads guilty to reduced drug charge in El Paso case, ordered to pay fine
Rapper Wiz Khalifa has pled guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to his arrest at the El Paso International Airport last year on a marijuana possession charge, according to court records.
The charge was reduced to a Class C misdemeanor and the rapper, real name Cameron Thomaz, pled guilty today and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.
Khalifa performed May 24, 2014 at El Paso’s Neon Desert Music Festival and was arrested early the next morning at the El Paso airport for allegedly being in possession of 0.5 grams of marijuana.
Khalifa discussed his El Paso arrest in a video posted on YouTube in late May 2015 while he was at the SoundSet Music Festival in Minnesota. He was asked if the officers and guards were cool with him taking the selfie in the El Paso International Airport holding cell.
“Nah, he was pissed,” Khalifa says in the video. “Shout out to Officer (name edited out in video). I shouldn’t even said his name neither cause he don’t want no one to know who he is. I just double (screwed) you now. I was like, ‘yo, can I get that phone, man? I really need to call my wife. I gotta tell her what happened.’ And then he gave me the phone and I was like ‘selfie!’

“Mr. (Cameron) Thomaz was placed under arrest after he was found to have a small amount of marijuana as he passed through a TSA Checkpoint at the airport. While in custody he asked to use his phone to call a relative. The handling officer allowed Mr. Thomaz to make that call and during that time he used that opportunity to take the pictures. To be clear, given the circumstances of this case it would not be uncommon to honor such a request,” El Paso Police said in a statement to ABC-7 in May 2014.
The rapper’s new project is titled “28 Grams” was released after his arrest.
He had a hit song with “See You Again” that was part of the “Furious 7” film this year and played during the tribute portion to Paul Walker.
