Motorcyclist dies from injuries suffered in weekend crash

A motorcyclist injured in a crash during the weekend died from his injuries Monday.

Alberto Lopez, 22, who lived at Fort Bliss, failed to stop his sports motorcycle at the end of the 1700 block of San Antonio Ave., and crashed into a canal Sunday, investigators said.

Lopez was taken to University Medical Center, where he died Monday.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Lopez’s death is the 23rd this year. There were 21 traffic deaths at the same time last year.
