pat murphy hired by the san diego padres… murphy replaces bud black who was fired yesterday… we’ll have more on this later on in sports… good evening everyone … it’s great to have you with us… i’m danny mata with sports … the cavaliers were looking to force a game 7 while the warriors were looking to claim their first nba title in 40 years … the mvp steph curry and the warriors… champs with a win… lebron and the cavaliers ready to deny them… lebron has been amazing in these finals… tonight was no different… early on… great ball movement… the mvp… looking like it… 3 there… then… curry… like ice cream? how bout a scoup! later.. andre iguodala … it’s like butta! warriors in control… but just before the half… lebron no… tristan thompson yes! cavs down 2 at the half… 4th quarter… cavs down 9… lebron with the steal and he opens up the can of slam… cavs within 7… but the warriors would not be denied… klay thompson from deep… money! and then it’s shaun livingston… the cavs tried to rally late but it wasn’t enough… the golden state warriors are the nba champions… they beat the cavs 105-97 to take the series in 6… andre iguodala is the mvp… the first finals mvp who didn’t start a single game in the regular season… it is truly amazing how quickly things change… pat murphy and jody davis know that as well as most … in 24 hours, the careers of two men changed forever… pat murphy went from manager of the chihuahuas… to manager of the san diego padres… davis: “it is pretty crazy. we had speculation that murph was gonna go to the major leagues and do something up there. we didn’t know what.” murphy is tasked with reving a struggling padres team which entered the year with high expectations after an aggressive off season of spending … murphy: “as i got int pro ball i started to learn a little bit more. i’ve got a ton to learn but i started to think of it more as something that might be fun.” the padres los their first game under murphy… but he has time to right the ship … meanwhile… the task of managing the chihuahuas falls on jody davis… at least for now… davis has a rapport with the players… but ultimately the padres have a say in who the manager will be… inside the organization… he has support… taylor: “you’ve got guy like jody who’s been with the team for over a year. he’s a former big league catcher. pretty good experience, pretty good track record and he’s got managing experience in minor league baseball. what’s not to like about that?” murphy is known for hi fiery passion… something the padres hope to utilize… murphy: “i fin myself like and people say, look at you! i love seeing guys that maybe i had that much to do with succeed. it’s something i found out i really enjoy.” even afte he left… murphy managed to spark something in his former team.. davis: “these guys have rapport with murph. they know him and he knows what they can do and they’re excited about that fact that now the major league manager knows who they have in triple a and if someone needs to be called on, they feel like they have an insight with the manager.” no the next chapter of the chihuahuas begins. nat: “the chihuahua win!” there’s plenty more on pat murphy on our website kvia dot com … meanwhile… the chihuahuas were in action today… looking to bounce back from a loss last night against albuquerque… chihuahuas and isotopes… look at that kid… he can boogey… bottom 8th… we’re tied at 2… drew stubbs… base hit to left… that will score a run… chihuahuas record an out on the play but the damage is done… top 9… dogs down 3-2 … ramiro pena… that’s not going to do it… he flies out and that’s it… tough start for jody davis… dogs have lost both of his games so far… 3-2 the final… the u-s women’s soccer team was looking to punch its ticket to the round of 16 with a win over nigeria… team usa ready to go after letting an oportunity get away against sweden… 12th minute… asisat oshoala… with a shot saved by hope solo… 45th minute… megan rapinoe with a great set up for abby wambach… 1-mil team usa and that’s all they would need! team usa advances… they win 1-0… the newest miners are working out here in el paso… one of them
