Chihuahuas Hammer Tacoma
One gameafter being shut out, the El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Tacoma Rainiers 14-1Mondaynight. It was the largest margin of victory in Chihuahuas’ history. The two teams split the four-game series.
The Chihuahuas scored six runs in back-to-back innings, batting around in both the fourth and fifth innings. Their fourth inning rally included a grand slam by Casey McElroy and a solo home run by Alex Dickerson. McElroy arrived from Double-A San Antonio earlier in the day. His grand slam was El Paso’s first sinceMay 8, 2015 (Cody Decker).
Dickerson homered for the second time in two innings when he went deep in the fifth. He became the first Chihuahua to hit multiple homers in a game since Jake Goebbert in Las Vegas onJune 7, 2015.
The Rainiers made four errors in the first five innings and the Chihuahuas capitalized, scoring unearned runs after each error. The Chihuahuas scored in four of the first five innings.
McElroy and Dickerson both fell triples shy of the first cycle in Chihuahuas’ history. Daniel McCutchen had his longest Chihuahuas start onMonday, lasting six innings and allowing only one run.
