Fort Bliss father surprises daughters with unexpected visit

For 7-year-old Kaitlyn and 5-year-old Kiera May, Wednesday evening’s trip to Peter Piper Pizza was very special.

Their father, Maj. Christopher May who has been on duty for nine months was going to pay them an unexpected visit.

“It’s really tough. It’s like a piece of you is missing and you kind of have to switch modes from mommy to being a little bit of mommy and daddy,” said the girl’s mom, Ebony May.

She said the girls had been missing their father and she anxiously set up the surprise arrival.

The girls were shocked at first then quickly wrapped their arms around their father and everyone in the restaurant started cheering.

“I’m just elated everything worked out and that he’s here safe and sound. I did a lot of prayers between yesterday and today and I’m happy and happy to see my kids happy,” Ebony May said.

It was a day May had been waiting for since he got the news he was coming home.

“I started counting down about a month out. I have a calendar and I’ve been checking it off,” he said.

Kaitlyn had a letter she was going to send to her father but ended up reading it to him. Kiera wouldn’t let her daddy go..

ABC-7 asked what they are going to do now that their father is back and they tell us they are going on a long awaited family vacation.
