Double-roundabout opens, confuses some drivers

still the talk of the town. especially a pair of them now officially open to drivers near fox plaza in south el paso. this is what paisano and alameda looked like before the construction began last year. there was an overpass … and a lot of congestion. and this is what the intersection looks like now. no more overpass … and hopefully, no more gridlock during the busiest parts of the day. we spent the day speaking to drivers who say they were confused and didn’t know how to navigate through both roundabouts. they really are no different than any other intersection, so there’s no reason to panic. you’ll see signs like this posted as you approach the roundabouts… and they show you which lane to be in. tonight, we’re taking you through the process. abc- seven’s evan folan is live at the newly renovated intersection… open .. with the story developing now… this is the modern rounadabout… although it may look confusing now, you follow these few simple steps you will get the hang of it. sots: “what do you think abou these rounadbouts.. i don’t like them. why don’t you like them? because they are so confusing. they suck. why do they suck? because they stop traffic. is it confusing for you? yes what do you think about the new rounabouts. i am lost. where do i go from here? you dont know how to navigate through these? no it is my first time.” are you like these el pasoans who are confused by modern roundabouts like these? if so, take a moment and look at this sign. it shows you exactly where you need to be. just like any other intersection… if you want to turn right… stay in your right hand lane. if you want to turn left or make a u-turn, stay in your left hand lane. if you want to keep driving forward … either lane will work. the rest is up to you… simply look out for drivers already in the roundabout… because they have the right of way. standup: “we ar about to enter the rounadbout… we have to yield. make yusre there is no pedestrians. there is a car coming right now so we have to wait. two cars coming… and then gradually enter the rounabout.” these rounabout are designed to keep traffic moving. the speed limit is 20 mph when using the roads. engineer bite – they actaully move a fairly high capacity of traffic fairly safely and as confusing as they may be they are here to stay… driver- i guess it’ll take some getting used to just like she said, it will just take some getting used to. and rember to yield to the drivers! reporting live in south el paso evan folan abc 7 evan folan live with news we can all use. thank you for walking us through it. construction continues on el paso’s san jacinto plaza downtown. it’s expected to be
