see you then. news crew… on an early morning crash shutting down i-10 in both directions in central. republican presidential hopefuls on the campaign trail … and it’s not just about trump today! president obama making his first trip to kenya since entering the white house… but some differences coming up on his goodwill tour. and in stormtrack weather, iris! this is all the news you need to start your saturday, . abc-7’s “good morning el paso weekend starts right now! good morning and thank you for joing us… i’m andrew j. polk. the tour de france got a surprise today. that’s because a car with two people inside crashed through a barricade near the finish line. police say it happened just hours before cyclists finished the race. this is footage from yesterday’s race. the car reportedly struck another vehicle, and police wanted to question the driver. that’s when the driver fled, crashing through the barrier that protects the tour. police then opened fire but that didn’t stop the car. the car drove away but police still want to find the two people in the car. starting off this morning with ’round the clock news… our crews there as an early morning accident shuts down i-ten a motorcyclist lost control of his motorcyle and crashed around 2am this morning on i ten westbound in front of basset place. several drivers stopped to help the motorcyclist who was taken to an area hospital. the crash closed the freeway in both directions causing a traffic mess as drivers were diverted onto gateway east and west. at this time we are waiting for an update on the motorcyclist’s condition. another accident from last night. this time it happened on the east bound lanes of loop 375 in northeast el paso just past the railroad exit. the driver of a compact car was heading west on east bound loop 375 when it collided head on into a chevy camaro just past the rail road exit. the impact killed the wrong way driver at the scene. an el paso woman vacationing in mexico has died. it happened in the well-known travel destination, puerto penyasco–just south of tucson. the woman was killed in an atv accident. she’s 20 year old cyndi valeria cruz. these are photos sent to us by a viewer. a mexican newspaper reports cruz and two other friends were speeding when she was killed. cruz leaves behind two- year-old twin girls seen here. an investigation is underway. thanks iris. a ordinance meant to offer new protections to gay and transgender residents in texas is in trouble. the texas supreme court has ruled that houston officials must either repeal the city’s equal rights ordinance or put it up before voters. the all- republican court ruled that legislative powers were not being preserved for residents. that’s because the petition for the ordinance hadn’t gathered enough valid signatures. the council has 30 days to repeal the measure or place it on the ballot. a pregnant woman in albuquerque is safe after she was threated with a knife. the man suspected of threatening her is in custody after a standoff with albuquerque police. they say they were called to the home early yesterday morning. that’s when the woman told police what was happening and they were able to get her and her female friend out of the house safely. but the suspect refused to talk to police and barricaed himself inside. swat officers got involved and were finally able to arrest the man. so what will you weather be for your plans today? let’s get your first forecast with stormtracker iris lopez. good morning iris! atlanta’s spelman college has officially terminated a professorship endowed by comedian bill cosby and his wife camille–and returned the money. the university did note cite a reason for the termination… but it comes a week after documents from cosby’s testimony in a 2005 deposition were obtained. in it, cosby admitted he obtained sedatives to give to women he wanted to have sex with. more than two dozen women have accused cosby of sexual assault. he has never been criminally charged and has denied wrongdoing. president barack obama and kenyan president uhuru kenyatta say their nations have many things in common… but concern for gay rights issues isn’t one of them. obama and kenyatta held a joint press conference in the capital of nairobi. jeremy roth reports. : “the first time i came here i was in jeans and a backpack!” making his first visit to kenya as president … obama and kenyan president uhuru kenyatta talked of working together to fight terrorism and protect human rights. : “there has been extensive and effective counter- terrorism cooperation between the united states and kenya, dealing with, primarily, threats from al- shabaab.” : “our common love fo democracy, entrepreneurship, value for families, these are things that we share.” but the two leaders didn’t agree on everything. criticizing the kenyan government on its position on gay rights … president obama compared it to racism in america. : “as an african american in th united states, i’m painfully aware of what happens when people are treated differently under the law.” : “this issue is not really a issue on the foremost of the minds of kenyans, and that is a fact.” obam praised the nation for working to fight official corruption, which he said could cause businesses to be hesitant about investing in kenya. : “this may be the bigges impediment to kenya growing even faster.” thoug nearing the end of his presidency… obama said that doesn’t mean his relationship with the homeland of his father would be over. : “i’ll be back. the next tim i’m back, i may not be wearing a suit.” i’m jeremy roth, reporting. earlier in the day obama laid a wreath at the memorial site of the 19-98 u-s embassy bombing in nairobi. that attack killed more than 200 people. new jersey governor chris christie is campaigning in iowa– along with a long list of other presidential hopefuls. the republican has been holding town halls and visiting with voters at several hot spots — iowa is home to the critical first-in- the-nation caucuses. one of his visits prompted a heated debate at a town hall in ankeny saturday. the new jersey governor and presidential candidate defended his record on gun control and shouted at a gun rights activist who challenged him. “what you’re obligated to do, with all due, respect, is to have a few facts at you’re disposal. and not just an impression that you want to have. because the impression is wrong.” christie went on to say that he’s pro-gun and has vetoed efforts to limit gun restrictions like the ban on 50-caliber rifles. phoenix police say a woman and two dogs were found decapitated in an apartment. officials say a friend of the victim discovered the remains yesterday. a 43-year-old man, who police say had a severed arm, was taken into custody. officials say he has a history of mental illness and domestic violence. police say the man confessed to killing three family members. officials are not yet sure exactly who the suspect was referring to. “he did indicate to our officer that he had killed three family members while they were standing out front with him. we do not know at this point if he was insinuating the female that’s inside and the two dogs.” police have done welfare checks on other family members to follow up on his comments. marines and veterans stripped down, loaded up, and trekked together in san diego, california yesterday. they all gathered to raise awareness for suicide prevention. marchers walked wearing very short shorts, known as ‘silkies.’ they carried packs weighing nearly 50 pounds. why?
