Wrong Way Driver Causes Head-on Fatality

Special Traffic Investigators responded to assist Northeast Regional Command officers with an overnight traffic fatality.

A 2009 Toyota Camry was being driven by Lysett Gutierrez of El Paso, on the wrong side of the highway. The Camry was traveling West on the East bound lanes of the road at Loop 375 approaching Railroad.

The driver of the Camry caused a head-on collision with a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro which was on the East bound lanes. The driver of the Camry died at the scene, and the driver of the Camaro was transported to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe that alcohol is a factor in this
accident. There are no pending charges against the driver of the Camaro.

This is the 29th traffic fatality compared to 28 at this time last year.
