Joint Commission on UMC: All defenciencies cleared
involves its accreditation. and today — the hospital got some good news. abc-7’s jerry najera has the latest developments — jerry: rick estela two weeks ago university medical center had to halt all elective and non-emergency surgeries because of defincienies found in one of their departments. the joint commision- an agency that surveys and accredits hospitals across the nation said at the time the hospital didn’t have proper documentation, policies and education in the sterile processing unit. this led to a preliminary denial of accreditation. the hospital had 23 days to correct any problems they had. and today after 20 days-a surveyor for the joint commission returned. the surveyor found that all deficiencies identified have been adressed and umc’s plan of action was approved. acording to the surveyor who’s name was withheld said: “i can’t say enough about the work that has been done in such a short period of time and about everyone’s commitment to make things right …all deficiencies have been cleared” i want to point out umc never lost accreditation as a result of the joint commision surveys. a formal notification of the surveyors findings has not been released. umc anticipates the notification to take place soon. nearly 100 people are expected to
