City introduces pay-by-cell app for 2,000 parking meters

Motorists will have a new way to feed parking meters starting Aug. 11.

They will now be able to use a pay-by-cell app.

The City of El Paso International Bridges Department, which oversees the city’s parking meter division, has teamed up with Park X to provide motorists with the added convenience of being able to pay for parking at a meter or to remotely add time to a parking session using a smartphone app.

The service will be available for use on all of the City’s approximately 2,000 meters.

“The pay-by cell application eliminates the need for motorists to carry coins and sends users a warning five minutes before their parking time expires to provide them with the opportunity to extend their parking session without having to walk back to the meter,” said Paul Stresow, International Bridges Department Deputy Director.

The app, called Park El Paso, is free and available for download on Android and Apple devices through the Apple App and the Google Play stores. Park El Paso will allow users to pay for parking with a credit or debit card.

To increase public awareness about this new service, parking meters will be marked with a Park El Paso label containing information on how to get and use the pay-by-cell app. For more information about Park El Paso app, visit http://www.getparkx.com/el-paso.html
