Chihuahuas Rally in Ninth, Beat Las Vegas 6-5

The El Paso Chihuahuas trailed by two runs with one out in the ninth inning Monday but came back to beat first place Las Vegas 6-5. Hector Gomez laced a three-run triple in the ninth inning to put the Chihuahuas ahead. Closer Jon Edwards left the tying run on at second base to secure his league-leading 23 rd save of the season.

The two teams swapped runs all game in a close contest that included five lead changes. Gomez went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, falling a single shy of the Chihuahuas’ first cycle. Ramiro Pena went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the seventh inning, which at the time broke a 2-2 tie. Hunter Renfroe hit a solo homer, his fifth longball in only 13 Triple-A games.

The Chihuahuas have won three of their last four games. El Paso now sits in second place, a half-game out of first with eight games to play including three against Las Vegas.
