Driver in weekend crash has died

Driver in traffic collision over the weekend has died.

Police were called to the 10600 block of Gateway West at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 to investigate a serious traffic collision.

Police say that a 2016 semi truck/ trailer had slowed on Gateway West and was making a right turn into the Walmart parking lot when it was struck from the rear by the 2007 BMW which had allegedly been traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the BMW, 29-year-old Eric Aofia, was transported with life-threatening injuries to Del Sol Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the truck/trailer, 53-year-old Roberto Anchondo, was not injured.

Police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

This was the city’s 32nd traffic fatality of the year
