Houchen Comunity Center shutters daycare

the historic houchen community center has announced it will be getting rid of all it’s paid staff … and shuttering it’s daycare due to serious money problems that could affect the future of the center. abc-7’s andrew j. polk spoke with families affected, and is live with the details. andrew? maria, the houchen community center has be part of the segundo barrio for more than a hundred years… but the staff and director say to continue doing anything for the community, they have to stop the resource drain the daycare has become. but the decision made by houchen’s board last thursday and announced at the start of this week has left parents with children still in the program scrambling. parents i spoke with say they only found out yesterday with a flyer handout given to them as they dropped off their children. staff say that the employees will be paid through the 15th … with services ending next friday, september 11th. parents i spoke with told me if they had known of the problems… they would have tried to do something to help. “the employees that have put in so much work, their dedication. there’s employees that have been here 20 plus years. to just be notified from one day to the next – you’re not going to be employed within the next week.” there are some emotional reactions to this situation, from both the parents and the leadership of the houchen center. coming up at 5, we’ll hear more about parent concerns… and what the center says led them to this point. maria? g-o-p presidential candidate jeb bush, slipping in the polls, is
