Las Cruces’ Austin ‘No Doubt’ Trout fights Tuesday on national TV

New Mexico’s Austin ‘No Doubt’ Trout (29-2, 16 KOs) takes on southpaw Joey ‘Twinkle Fingers’ Hernandez (24-3, 14 KOs) at 7 p.m. Tuesday on Fox Sports 1.

At the end of 2012, Austin Trout was on top of the 154-pound division after successfully defending his title for a fourth time with a unanimous-decision victory over Miguel Cotto. But then Trout ran into adversity, as the Las Cruces, New Mexico, native dropped consecutive unanimous decisions to Canelo Alvarez in April 2013 and Erislandy Lara in December 2013.

Proving his championship mettle, Trout (29-2, 16 KOs) has since rebounded with three straight victories (the last two by knockout). On September 8, his quest to regain a 154-pound championship continues against fellow southpaw Joey Hernandez as Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays debuts on FOX Sports 1 in Los Angeles.
This will be Trout’s third consecutive fight under trainer Barry Hunter, with Trout’s longtime cornerman, Louie Burke, serving as an assistant.

“This is an important fight,” said the 29-year-old Trout. “Winning should get me within inches of my next title fight.”

Hoping to spoil those plans at the Hollywood Palladium is Hernandez (24-3-1, 14 KOs), a crafty 30-year-old Cuban-American from Miami who has dropped two of his last three bouts.

Hernandez sandwiched a seventh-round stoppage of Jose Miguel Rodriguez Berrio between unanimous-decision losses to current champion Cornelius Bundrage and unbeaten Julian Williams, the latter in April.

With Trout looking to continue his resurgence and Hernandez hoping to get his career back on track, this fight doesn’t figure to lack for action.
