after making an incredible run to end the regular season … the el paso chihuahuas clinched the p-c-l’s pacific southern division last night in reno. next stop for the dogs? the playoffs! abc-7’s darren hunt is live at five with details on what should be an exciting weekend for el pasoans at southwest university park. darren. rick, the chihuahuas are wrapping up the regular season right now in reno … they’ll make the short bus trip to fresno after today’s game to prepare for a best-of-five pacific conference championship series against the houston astros triple-a team. games one and two are set for wednesday and thursday night in fresno. game three and games four and five, if necessary, will be played in el paso on friday, saturday and sunday. tickets for all of the games in el paso are already on sale online, by phone and at the ballpark box office. this was the scene last night in reno after the chihuahuas beat reno 4-2 and tacoma eliminated las vegas. champagne for everyone as the padres franchise celebrated their first triple-a division title in more than a decade. the chihuahuas now have a chance to deliver el paso’s first minor league baseball championship since the diablos won the texas league at cohen stadium back in 19-94. and it’s clear from the quick response for playoff tickets, el pasoans are excited about the possibility of winning their first triple-a title in history. “saw it last night around 1 oclock, i said, you know wake up early and get out here … you were planning ahead? yes i was … … you’re smart because its not an easy ticket here is it? nope not all, its been sold out pretty much most of the year, so, got lucky.” “i wou imagine you are projecting sellouts for these weekend games … yeah we sure hope so but i’ll tell you this, in minor league baseball, i’ve been this for 21 years … its not a guarantee … in fact i’ve never been part of an organization that’s sold out a playoff game.” i told taylor, that’s about to change! many tickets for friday’s first playoff game in el paso have already been bought by season seat holders. he indicated about 2,000 more had been sold by this afternoon … meaning the chihuahuas are already less than 2,000 tickets short of a sellout. we’ll talk more about that at six. rick. … to stormtrack weather now! the change in the month hasn’t changed the temperature much. chief meteorologist
