Visit El Paso app offers Facetime to help tour downtown

Destination El Paso recently launched an app to help visitors maneuver through the city.

The app isn’t just for travelers, either.

A stroll through Downtown El Paso took an enlightening twist as ABC-7 was accompanied by Kimberly McCarden with Destination El Paso and the Visit El Paso app on her phone.

“We just wanted to showcase all the great assets the city has to offer,” said McCarden, explaining the reason the organization designed the app.

The app helps you explore the Sun City with driving tours, bike tours, and walking tours. It even breaks down the sights depending on how much time you have to spend exploring.

“This all came from brochures generated by individual organizations,” McCarden said, adding, “We worked with the El Paso Community Foundation and the historical commission to come up with the brochure for the downtown walking tours.”

That was the tour McCarden and ABC-7 took to check out the Plaza Theatre, the Camino Real Hotel and the Mills Building.

An audio recording of different points in the tour is just one of the app’s helpful features. Another feature is Apple’s Facetime.

“Say, you’re lost,” said McCarden. “During operating hours, you can speak with our visitor information specialists downtown.”

Destination El Paso hopes the app helps everyone to get to know the city, visitors and natives alike.

“This is definitely a great tool for locals. And a great way to show off the city and familiarize yourself with the city,” said McCarden.

The app is free to download. The Facetime feature is only available on Apple products.
