Autopsy Report: Las Cruces teen killed after gunshot wound to head

A state autopsy shows that a 17-year-old killed at a Las Cruces trailer park died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Jaycob Alba was shot outside a mobile home at about 3 a.m. on July 31st.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office says Alba and four acquaintances were attempting a home invasion robbery when gunfire broke out among the group. Alba was fatally shot and the four others ran away.

The four teenagers have been charged with murder for Alba’s death. They all pleaded not guilty in August.

The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator was unable to determine how close the shooter was to Alba. The autopsy also did not find a bullet in Alba’s body.
