Gas leak forces residents to evacuate

Residents were forced to evacuate their homes after a gas leak was detected in the area early Wednesday morning.

The incident began around 4:45 a.m. on the 5900 block of Griems Court, just east of Fox Plaza in South-Central El Paso.

Fire crews say it began when a resident called 911 to report a strong odor of gas.

Fire crews on the scene who tell us that a 2-inch gas pipe has been clamped, and there was already ongoing work on that pipe.

The fire department incident commander also tells us one family self evacuated and left their home for the time being. No one was taken to the hospital.
