Centennial, Hatch Valley go for state championships

Go big or go home. That’s the motto at Hatch Valley High School, where the entire student body displayed their school spirit during a traditional pep rally Friday.

But across town, on the eve of a state championship, at Centennial High School, the school is quiet as students roam the halls decorated with signs and balloons.

“This is a normal week for us,” said Principal Mike Montoya who doesn’t want the hype to distract the boys. Once they get on the field, they’ll let their actions speak for themselves.

The Hawks are playing with heavy hearts tomorrow, following the death of assistant coach Roger Grays, but Montoya says the lack of pre celebrations, has nothing to do with the sudden loss. This is just the Centennial way, “this is just how coach O’Campo handles, does things, in a normal week.”

Two different schools with one goal in mind– make history–for the Hatch Bears, for their town.
