, , welcome to abc- seven x-tra. good evening, i’m maria garcia. tonight we’re recapping the top seven local stories of 2015. it’s been an eventful, and sometimes dramatic and controversial year. joing us to recap all the tension, all the fights and the politics: el paso times senior editor cindy ramirez. el paso inc reporter david crowder. and our very own prime- time news anchor rick cabrera. before our discussion, though. let’s show you what made our list of the top seven local stories of 2015: i think if he would have gotten the help he need. maybe he wouldn’t have done that. at number seven: a somber day at the el paso v-a clinic. when guman jerry sorrato walked in and shot and killed psychologist dr. timothy fjordbak. leaving a bloody scene and a traumatized staff at the place el paso veterans seek help. i call it malicious prosecution by an officer it slander i call it lies i call it public corruption if the district attorney didn’t believe that there was enough to go forward these grand subpoenas wouldn’t have been issued at number six: a battle brewing in las cruces. sheriff ki vigil accusing jail director chris barela of stealing. barelas has been arrested and a judge now deciding who will take over the jail. estela: “now, if the fast track doesn’t go through, is the agreement doomed, is tpp doomed?” obama: if i don’t have the authority to be able to just present an agreement that’s been negotiated before congress story number five: the transpacific partnership – a controversial tradepact between the u-s and 11 countries. our very own estela casas traveled to washington to interview the president – analyzing if the agreement would cost the border jobs or increase trade. “our two cities are linked in s many ways” now to number four: the border preparing for pope francis visit. millions of catholics bracing to see the pontiff in juarez and el paso also helping with the historic event. an operation so massive – it requires up to 80-thousand volunteers. “i don’t anticipate any delay to this project. we should be able to give this back to the citizens of february, 2015 like we promised.” that turne out to be a broken promise. at number three: the botched san jacinto plaza project which is still not finished. raising serious questions about the city’s ability to deliver key projects on time and on budget. so, they are one family now. you know, two different branches of a family, but they’re one family and so everyone has to work together. top story number two: after almost more than two years of a public, often contentious feud. university medical center and the bankrupt children’s hospital came to an agreement. but now: the other major challenge: how children’s goes from bleeding money to making money or at least breaking even. if i had to do some things over, yeah i probably would. i’d probably be a lot more vocal.” and our top story of 2015: the controversy surrounding city rep. larry romero and city manager tommy gonzalez. the two have been under the microscope since gonzalez authorized the search for a new financial advisor at the suggestion of romero but without a vote from council. and romero for not disclosing he once worked with the owner of a company he touted for the city. joing us now: el paso times senior editor cindy ramirez. and our prime time anchor rick cabrera. welcome. you’re watching abc-seven x-tra. when we come back … anchor rick cabrera. welcome. you’re watching abc-seven x-tra. still ahead… joing us now: el paso times senior prime time anchor rick cabrera. welcome. anchor rick cabrera. welcome. cabrera. welcome. you’re watching abc-seven x-tra. still ahead… joing us now: el paso times senior editor cindy ramirez. and our prime time anchor rick cabrera. welcome.
