Airport travel affected in El Paso by bad weather elsewhere

El Paso air travelers faced uncertainty Sunday as several flights were delayed or canceled out of the El Paso International Airport.

While the airport remained open amid the weekend winter storm and record snowfall, weather conditions outside of El Paso led to some flight cancelations.

American Airlines Flight 1235 from Dallas-Fort Worth was canceled Sunday afternoon, meaning travelers using that aircraft to leave El Paso also had their flight canceled.

AA flights from Houston and to Phoenix were also called off.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area saw tornadoes over the weekend and that led to a domino effect impacting air travel.

“Hundreds of flights have been impacted by the storms. Thank you for your patience,” read a tweet from DFW Airport.

“AA flights have been impacted the most since they account for about 85% of all flights at #DFW. We thank you for your patience,” read another.

El Paso airport officials encouraged travelers Sunday to check with their airlines for up-to-date information on delays and cancellations.

Another piece of advice: arrive early to the terminal.

“Travelers should arrive at the El Paso International Airport at least two hours before their flight is scheduled to depart to get through the ticket and security lines,” said a City of El Paso spokeswoman via Facebook.
