Juarez crews building ramp for Pope Francis, will give pontiff better view of El Paso

An ABC-7 crew in Juarez Tuesday noticed workers are laying asphalt and building a ramp right next to the Rio Grande levee on Mexican side of the border.

The construction crew told ABC-7 the popemobile is expected to drive Pope Francis up the ramp, where he will get off to get a better look at El Paso and wave to people expected to gather on the American side of the border.

It is unclear who the Pope will see north of the river.

The City of El Paso announced Monday a portion of the Border Highway will be closed during the papal visit and pedestrians would not be allowed to walk onto the empty highway.

Crews are also building a cross near the border, where the Pope is expected to pray in silence for immigrants all over the world.
