Baby Brianna’s mother to be released from prison

Baby Briana Lopez was killed after being beaten, bitten, burned and raped by her own family in 2002.

The baby’s mother, Stephanie Lopez was sentenced to 27 years in prison. However, after serving half of her sentence Lopez is scheduled to be released on September 9.

New Mexico’s deputy director of adult prison’s says Lopez must be released by law. She has fulfilled her required time in prison and upon her release, she will be placed on parole. If she violates parole she will return to prison to serve an additional two years.

Brianna’s father, Andy Walters and her uncle, Stephen Lopez were sentenced to more than 50 years in prison.

This Valentine’s Day, Baby Briana would have turned 14 years old. Community members are invited to celebrate her birthday with song and prayer at the Dona Ana cemetery.
