good night. folan. and i’m josie ortegon. we begin this newscast with breaking news! supreme court justice antonin scalia is dead. abc-7 reporter darren hunt – who broke the story on kvia dot com and on twitter joins us live to tell us how he got word of the justice’s passing. evan and josie, my wife and i received a call from a member of her family at about two this afternoon … that family member told us he was on a hunting trip with scalia near marfa and that the 30-year justice had died in his sleep overnight. that family member, who did not want us to share his name publicly, told us he was with scalia at cibolo creek ranch just outside of marfa. he said scalia left washington d-c at 6 a-m yesterday and he spent the whole day quail hunting with him. during dinner, he said, scalia did not complain about anything, but indicated he was a bit tired and went to bed. his body was discovered this morning. scalia was the longest-serving current justice on the supreme court. he was appointed by president ronald reagan in 1986. former president george w. bush sent out this statement: “he was a towering figure and important judge on our nation’s highest court. he brought intellect, good judgment, and wit to the bench, and he will be missed by his … ” ” … colleagues and ou country. laura and i send our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his wife. maureen, and the entire scalia family.” reporter live scalia and his wife had nine children. evan and josie. thank you darren, justice scalia was staying at
