Justice Scalia’s body flown from El Paso to Virginia

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s body was flown back home from El Paso to Virginia around 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Scalia’s body was found in his hotel room Saturday morning after he died from natural causes.The supreme court justice was quail hunting the night before at Cibolo Creek Ranch outside of Marfa, Texas.

At around midnight, state troopers were seen escorting the body out of Marfa. From there, Scalia’s body was driven nearly three hours to Sunset Funeral Home in Northeast El Paso, at the family’s request. His body arrived early Sunday morning.

At about 4:30 Sunday afternoon a hearse arrived to transport the body. It was taken to Cutter Aviation to be flown back home to Virginia.

Scalia was the longest-serving Justice on the current Supreme Court at the time of his death. He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, and was unanimously confirmed without a nomination fight to become the Court’s first Italian-American justice.

Scalia and his wife, Maureen, had nine children. Born in Trenton, New Jersey March 11, 1936, he was less than a month from his eightieth birthday.
