Prescribed burn happening Wednesday near Organ Mountains

Firefighters from Fort Bliss will be burning a portion of the Organ Mountains on Wednesday.

It’s part of The Organ Mountains Firebreaks Prescribed Fire project.

The fire will be on the southeast portion of the mountain near the Dona Ana Range Complex.

The objective of this project is to create sufficient blackline to halt the spread of military caused wildfires on Doa Ana ranges.

This area is where, historically, wildfires have started in the past and became large and burned north and west off of Fort Bliss.Smoke will likely be visible for miles.

If anyone has concerns or questions please contact the Fort Bliss Fire Department at 915-744-2115 or 915-744-8401 or the Fort Bliss Public Affairs Office at 915-568-4505 or 915-568-4088.
