Four killed in I-25 crash in Las Cruces

Two adults and two children were killed as a result of a crash early Sunday morning near I-25 and Highway 70. According to an official release, New Mexico State Police responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on I-25 around 12:30 a.m.

State police say their investigation showed a Hyundai sedan was headed southbound on I-25 near mile marker 6 when it came to a stop in while still in the left lane. A Ford sedan in the same southbound lane collided into the Hyundai, causing the fuel tank of the Hyundai to rupture and catch fire.

All four occupants of the Hyundai sedan were killed as a result of the crash:

28-year-old Antoinette Harwood of Las Cruces, the driver; 19-year-old Corine Banda of Las Cruces; and Harwood’s children, 2-year-old Adrian Banda and 1-month-old Layahna Banda of Las Cruces.

The two children were transported to nearby hospitals where they were pronounced deceased. The driver and passenger were pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver and only person in the Ford sedan was 18-year-old Noa Siamu of Las Cruces. He was air lifted from the scene to University Medical Center in El Paso where he is currently listed in stable condition, according to state police.

State police are still investigating the crash.

I-25 was shut down overnight for several hours as state police worked to clear the scene. The interstate was back open by daylight Sunday morning
