Sneak peek at renovated San Jacinto Plaza
the media was invited for a sneak peek of the plaza this afternoon. abc-7’s darren hunt was there and he joins us live from downtown el paso with the details … darren. rick and estela, its taken three years to get to this point … a lot longer than perhaps any of us expected, but we will leave it up to our viewers whether it was worth that wait. i asked city project manager gilbert guerrero about all the project delays and multiple change orders that delayed the process: take sot: “they were supposed to finish a the end of june last year, nine months behind schedule … there’s a total of 12 change orders, i’ve got one that we got pending it’s a small change order … should be a total of about 13 changes orders.” that’s important because the company who did this, basic idiq, was being fined a thousand dollars a day by the city for every day past the june deadline of last year. but those change orders could come into play when it comes to those fines. the project manager told me it will be a couple of weeks before the total fine is calculated. rick and estela. the demolition of the historic san jose church began today.
