and i’m stephanie valle. the time now, 6:?? on your — morning. a low pressure system with a cold crew… to round the clock coverage from the far eastside. police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital. emergency dispatchers tell us it happened around 10 last night on the 12-hundred block of paseo rae. this is video of the area from our round the clock news crew. the victim was taken to del sol medical center in critical condition. police have not said if anyone was arrested. aftershocks have been rattling communities in southern japan, following a magnitude 6.5 quake that killed nine people and injured about 800. rescue workers have been combing through rubble in hard-hit areas to make sure there are no more trapped people. the prime minister says the government wants to prevent any secondary disasters from aftershocks. north korea attempted to fire a missile from its eastern coast and failed… that’s according to south korea’s joint chiefs of staff. friday’s launch attempt involved an intermediate-range musudan missile, according to south korean media reports. earlier this week, u.s. intelligence satellites spotted signs that north korea may have been preparing to launch a mobile ballistic missile. the u-s state department says it is closely monitoring the situation and is calling on north korea to refrain from raising tensions in the region. russian president vladimir putin is blaming the u-s for the “panama papers” in an annual q-and-a session in moscow– putin accused washington of being behind the scandal. the papers include millions of documents leaked to international journalists from a law firm in panama. the documents implicate several world leaders of using offshore financial companies for possible illegal activities. putin wasn’t named in the documents … but some of his high- level associates were. putin claims the u-s government did it because it wanted to destabilize his regime before russian elections in september. now to the latest in the race to the white house… it’s your voice, your vote.. the divisions between hillary clinton and bernie sanders were on full display during the democratic debate on cnn. from legal protections for gun manufacturers– and the ongoing question of clinton’s relationship with the big banks- sanders asked if he could name one decision where clinton favored banks– the barbs went beyond policy to personal matters– ” presidential candidate) this is a phony attack that is designed to raise questions when there is no evidence or support to undergird the insinuations that he is putting forward in these attacks. on the g-o-p side the three republican hopefuls for president made their case for winning the nomination at the new york state republican gala last night. donald trump delivered an impassioned defence of “new yor values” saying the city embodied the “bravery, heart and soul of america”. john kasich is claiming electability and warning that republicans could be swept out of power across the nation if the party selects the wrong presidential nominee. ” “who at the end of the d has the experience and the record and the ability to bring this country together? who can be the best president of the united states? i maintain to you that i’m going to leave cleveland as the nominee whether you believe it or not it’s going to happen. thank you new york and i love you.” meanwhile…ted cruz made the pitch that he is the only candidate with a path to both the republican nomination and a general election victory. none of the three candidates received overly warm responses from the crowd. ballpark food and baseball– just some of the things to look forward to if you are a sports fan. today is the el paso chihuahuas season home opener. good morning el paso’s denise olivas joins us with a preview from southwest university park. the food– that’s my favorite! the el paso chihuahuas have added some new items on the menu. earlier this week– abc-7 got a sneak peek of the yummy food that will be served up at every game because that’s part of the game day experience right? there are nine new items added to the concession stands. from barbacoa tacos to garlic parmesan fries, bbq pulled pork nachos turkey burgers and pizza burgers! i have to say my favorite were the barbacoa tacos. chef philida bill she’s always experimenting to bring more flavors to the ballpark: “i know people like spicy but there are also people that don’t like to spicy, i just appreciate that people are more explorative here as far as what they want to eat they’re willing to try more stuff and while you’re waiting for your food– you can take part in the chihuahuas social square– it’s a new interactive command center– if you will– where fans can participate in the game using an interactive photo display via instagram, twitter and the first pitch app. the first pitch– has all you need to know about minor league baseball. gametime 7 o-clock a dona ana county corrections officer is facing prison time himself after authorities say he beat up a man inside a jail cell. this happened back in february. officer lewis ruiz was placed on administrative leave for this incident with detainee timothy black. black was handcuffed at the time. ruiz is now charged with aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm which is a third degree felony. a low pressure system with a cold front will cause windy and warm weather today across southern new mexico and west texas followed by cooler below normal temperatures and a few showers and thunderstorms saturday …sunday and again on monday. high pressure will produce warmer and drier weather later next week. let’s check out the traffic situation again . the tx-dot traffic cams, showing . an abc-7 traffic alert to pass along. gateway east is shut down at piedras. this is due to the road caving in during construction yesterday. it’s not clear when it will be fixed. your best bet to get around it will be to use the freeway and get off at copia instead… and then make a u- turn or head south depending on where you are going. meantime we have a check of the estimated wait times at the international bridges… and we can tell you highway 70 is expected to be open all day. we still have much more to come here on gmep… choosing the right tax form this season–can range from e to z to complex…we have some tips about the right one for you after the break. we are just 3 days away from the deadline to file your taxes. most
