UPDATE: Teen killed in crash played baseball for Chapin High School
A Chapin High School baseball player in a rollover crash Friday afternoon in Northeast El Paso.
Christopher Carreon was a student-athlete on the varsity baseball team, Chapin’s student council confirmed Friday.
Several high schools offered condolences on their Twitter pages, which the Chapin Student Council retweeted.
The Parkland High School student council tweeted, “Prayers & Condolences from the Parkland family to the Husky family, for their loss of Senior Christopher Carreon @chapin_stuco.” The tweet also had two praying hand a baby-blue heart, Chapin’s school color.
Andress High School tweeted, “Praying for the Chapin Family. We are sorry for your loss @chapin_stuco #weareandress.”
And the Irvin High School Student Council tweeted, “So sorry for you loss @chapin_stuco and Chapin family.” Attached was a photo that read, “Our thoughts are with you.”
Two others were seriously injured in the crash. It happened in front of the El Paso Eyecare Center about 4 p.m. on Gateway North Boulevard and Moonlight Avenue.
Police say a 17-year old was speeding with Carreon and another passenger in the car. Police say the driver lost control of the car and struck a curb, causing the car to roll over several times. Carreon died at the scene. The driver and the other passenger were taken to UMC serious injuries.
A police dispatch supervisor told ABC-7 crews had to use the Jaws of Life on the vehicle as part of the rescue.
