Family member: Mesilla man who lost everything in fire has died
A Mesilla man who lost everything in a devastating fire late last year has died, according to his wife Becky Luna.
On Sunday, Luna told ABC-7 her husband suffered a heart attack.
As ABC-7 reported,Ramon Ortega’s home and auto shop caught fire in November. Ortega said he had no insurance and estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars were lost.
The fire happened on the4200 block of Highway 28.
In January, Ortega said the stress from the fire caused him to have a heart attack. He recovered, but Luna said Ortega had another heart attack just last week and died.
She described Ortega as a hard worker. She said he had a big heart and was loved by a lot of people.
Luna posted this message on Ortega’s go-fund me page:
“I am asking the Gofundme members to donate so the family can bury Ramon. He has an elderly mother and she has no financial means to bury him. Ramon was disabled several years ago and has been living on $733 monthly. There are no funds available. Please search your hearts and donate to this family who is suffering from this terrible tragedy.”
