Jury panel selected in trial for man accused of plowing through construction zone, killing two workers

A jury panel has been selected in the trial of the man accused of driving drunk through a construction site and killing two construction workers in 2014.

It was May 11th, 2014 when I-10 had to be shut down overnight for the construction of Spur 1966. Police say then 18 year old Jan Michael Nieves Delgado, a former Fort Bliss soldier, ignored the road closure and crashed through the construction site, killing 54 year old Jimmy Joe Broadstreet and 39 year old James Green.

Court documents state that Delgado told police that he never say the construction barriers or machinery. Police say when they questioned Delgado, he told them he was driving because his friend was too drunk to drive.

ABC-7 confirms opening arguments in the trial will begin Thursday with Judge Marcos Lizarraga presiding over the 168th District Court. Delgado faces two counts of intoxicated manslaughter.
