Chihuahuas Win Fourth Straight Game Saturday

For the second consecutive game, the El Paso Chihuahuas broke a late tie and beat Omaha at Werner Park, defeating the Storm Chasers 7-2Saturdaynight.

After Omaha took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, Rocky Gale belted a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the third to tie the game. It was Gale’s third homer of the season, a new career high. Ryan Schimpf hit a home run onto the right field lawn seating one inning later to give El Paso a 2-1 advantage, his second homer of the road trip.

The Storm Chasers tied it when Travis Snider ran home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh. The Chihuahuas then exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth on a two-run triple by Carlos Asuaje, an RBI double by Alex Dickerson and a two-run home run by Hunter Renfroe, his second in as many games. Dickerson’s double extended his hitting streak to 26 games, the longest active streak in professional baseball.

Frank Garces, who has been a reliever most of his career, tossed six innings and allowed only one earned run in the longest start of his career. Chihuahuas’ starting pitchers have combined for 12 innings and one earned run in the first two games in Omaha.
